    The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has regained control of the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat following a tight by-election on Friday, July 12, 2025, with candidate Ewurabena Aubynn clinching a slim victory.

    Official results announced by Returning Officer Joseph Nii Kwartey Okpoti revealed that Aubynn secured 34,090 votes, narrowly defeating her closest rival, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 33,881 votes—a mere 209-vote difference.

    Of the 68,328 total votes cast, 67,917 were valid, while 411 were rejected.

    This victory marks the NDC’s recapture of the Ablekuma North seat, which was among the constituencies where a court-ordered rerun took place.

    Aubynn’s success strengthens the opposition’s parliamentary presence, now holding 184 seats—a two-thirds majority—and represents a key political advance in the Greater Accra Region.

    However, the by-election was not without controversy, as reports of violence—including attacks on journalists and party officials—sparked demands for investigations.

    Despite these incidents, the Electoral Commission has certified the results from all 281 polling stations.
