In a bold move that signals a renewed focus on brand visibility and strategic communication, Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), Ghana’s oldest and one of its foremost indigenous banks, has appointed Edem Knight-Tay as Head of Corporate Communication.

The move marks a major transition for a media personality who has, over the years, become synonymous with thoughtful broadcasting, creative direction, and impactful storytelling.

Edem’s new role comes at a time when strong brand narratives and trusted public engagement have become critical to the success of forward-looking organisations.

Industry watchers believe the appointment forms part of UMB’s broader brand repositioning strategy aimed at deepening stakeholder engagement, enhancing public trust, and reinforcing the Bank’s reputation as a forward-looking, indigenous financial institution.

Her appointment is already stirring conversation within both media and banking circles, with many describing it as a smart convergence of reputation management and customer-centered storytelling in an era where brand trust is a business imperative.

With more than a decade of experience in media, Edem is known across the country for her poise, professionalism, and powerful connection with audiences. She was not only a key part of Joy FM’s leadership as Programmes Manager but also the host and voice behind Home Affairs, the station’s flagship family lifestyle programme which airs on Saturday mornings.

The show, which explores relationships, parenting, and everyday family life, became a staple for many listeners under her warm and thoughtful guidance.

Her journey into corporate Ghana is widely seen as a natural progression — not only for her, but for a growing cohort of media professionals whose skills in communication, brand building, and public trust are proving invaluable across sectors.

Edem’s transition reflects how media experience is increasingly being valued in shaping corporate narratives and customer engagement strategies.

Ken Ansah, CEO of The Multimedia Group, expressed admiration and warm wishes for Edem, describing her exit as both proud and emotional.

“Edem has been an integral part of Joy FM and The Multimedia Group,” he said.

“Her moving on is bittersweet we’re proud of her evolution, but we will certainly miss her leadership, creativity, and calm. We wish her nothing but success in this exciting new chapter at UMB. She carries with her the heart of Joy FM, and we know she’ll make us proud.”

Edem Knight-Tay holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from the University of Ghana Business School.

She also graduated with First Class Honours in Film Directing from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), where she won Best Directed Movie for “Image Africa.”

Additionally, she earned a Certificate in Event Management, Public Relations, and Communications from the Ghana Institute of Journalism and is an alumna of Okuapeman School, where she completed her secondary education.

As she steps into her new role at UMB, Edem leaves behind not just a legacy of excellence in media, but a deep well of goodwill from colleagues, listeners, and the many lives she touched through the Joy brand.

The entire Joy FM family wishes her the very best as she brings her unique energy, creativity, and strategic insight to the world of corporate communication.
