Private legal practitioner and spokesperson for Movement for Change, Andrew Appiah Dankwa, has described the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as “a party without a soul,” accusing it of abandoning principles in favour of political expediency.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day, on Monday, July 7, 2025, Appiah Dankwa stated that the NPP has become a “zombie party,” motivated solely by self-interest rather than national interest or consistent constitutional values.

“The NPP now has become a party without a soul,” he stated. “It does not have any soul, NPP as we stand now is soulless. It’s a zombie party.”

He argued that the NPP no longer adheres to any enduring principle or conviction that guides its actions.

“A political party that defends a constitutional process when it’s used as agenda, but denounces the same process when it is applied to its own, forfeits the moral right to speak of justice,” he said. “Principle is not convenience. It is consistency in the face of changing interest.”

He argued that the party’s recent conduct, particularly in its criticism of the Electoral Commission over decisions it disagrees with, reveals a pattern of inconsistency.

Citing past political inconsistencies, Appiah Dankwa referred to how the NPP demanded the removal of former EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei under Article 146 of the Constitution, but now appears to question the legitimacy of the same process under similar conditions.

He also brought up the Fomena MP case, noting how the NPP once wanted the MP’s seat declared vacant in 2020 after he was sacked from the party for going independent, yet reversed their stance in 2024 when there was a hung parliament.

“The bigger question there is that, what principle fuels their actions?” he asked. “And I’m saying that there’s no principle, what fuels their action is self-interest.”

Referencing the words of American civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., he added, “It was Martin Luther King who said that, if you’re a man who is not ready to die for what you believe in, then you are not even worth being alive. Because then you’re a man without a soul.”

“And I’m saying that the NPP, having shown their lack of regard for principle over the years… the NPP is a party without a soul. They are zombie; Z-O-M-B-I-E a zombie party.”
