Salma Mumin warns against pirating her movies Salma Mumin warns against pirating her movies

Ghanaian actress and film producer Salma Mumin has warned that she will take action against anyone who pirates her films, described the act as “stealing.”

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on July 3, 2025, Salma expressed her frustration over how common movie piracy has become in Ghana.

She said the practice is disheartening, especially for filmmakers who invest time, effort, and money into producing quality work.

“We had a Nigerian actress ranting about some piracy and I added my voice to it because I’m a producer too and I said I didn’t break even because I realised my movie was being shown somewhere in the USA on a television station without my consent. I really knew how that felt so I added my voice to the conversation. For me, I do not condone that because that’s someone’s hard-earned money that they need to make that you were stealing,” she said.

Salma shared her own experience of discovering that one of her movies had been aired on a U.S.-based television station without her permission. She said that loss of control over her work and the money involved was painful.

She added that from now on, she will personally take on anyone who tries to pirate her work.

“If I find anybody stealing my movie, I’m gonna take them on. I will take you on because it takes a lot to produce one film and it’s very painful to not even make what you’re meant to make and others are already making behind you,” she warned.

Salma also called out individuals in the entertainment industry who are involved in piracy, saying they should know better and act responsibly.

“We as entertainment personnel should understand and know better to not even do this at all because the people doing it, they understand what they’re doing,” she said.

I really condemn that, and people should stop that. If I find anyone stealing my movie, I will take them on – @salmamumingh on movie piracy #DaybreakHitz pic.twitter.com/tOoQvBgPxx
