Former fetish priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua, known across Ghana as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour following her conviction in a widely publicized fraud case tied to a fake money-doubling scheme.

The sentencing was delivered on Thursday, July 3, 2025, by the Accra Circuit Court, nearly three years after her controversial arrest. Justice Evelyn Asamoah, who presided over the case, found Agradaa guilty of “charlatanic advertisement” and “defrauding by false pretences.”

Her conviction stems from a 2022 viral video in which Agradaa, during an all-night service at her Heaven Way Church in Weija, promised to multiply cash for anyone willing to offer money during the spiritual event.

Before final sentencing, Justice Asamoah ordered a pregnancy test to be conducted on Agradaa, an unexpected directive that delayed the final ruling. Once completed, the court handed her a 15-year custodial sentence, with hard labour attached.

Agradaa’s legal troubles began on October 9, 2022, when she was taken into police custody amid a growing number of fraud complaints from church attendees. The complaints followed a church program held on October 7, where attendees claimed they were enticed by promises of supernatural financial returns.

At the time, the Ghana Police Service released a statement confirming the arrest:

“The police have arrested Patricia Asiedua, alias Nana Agradaa, following allegations of a money-doubling scam levelled against her by some members of the public. The suspect is currently assisting with police investigations.”

Dozens of alleged victims soon came forward online, stating they had given Agradaa money expecting it to be doubled, only to be dismissed from the church empty-handed. The flood of online testimonies sparked a public uproar and intensified calls for justice.

Police later called on additional victims to report to the Accra Regional Police Command as part of the ongoing probe.
