Ghanaian socialite, Efia Odo, has pushed back against societal pressure to have children before a certain age.

She asserted her right to choose motherhood on her own terms.

In an X post, Odo, known in private life as Andrea Owusu, challenged the widespread belief that women must bear children before turning 30. She dismissed the notion as outdated and harmful, especially for women who aren’t emotionally or financially prepared to raise a child.

“One thing y’all are not going to do is pressure me to give birth,” she declared. “I’m not bringing a child into a broken home nor am I bringing a child into the world cuz society has told me that by my 30s I should’ve given birth.”

Efia Odo made it clear she’d rather wait until her 40s to have a child, if that’s when she feels fully ready to raise one in a stable, loving environment. Her message resonated with many who see parenthood as a personal decision, not a timeline dictated by cultural expectations.

She also called out the hypocrisy of those who rush women into motherhood only to later stigmatize them for being single mothers. “Y’all are always talking down on born ones but stay pressuring women to give birth cuz you feel their time is up. No one can tell me what to do with my life and when to do it,” she wrote.

    See her post below.

The same society making fun of born 1’s are the same ones pressuring women to have kids just because. I refuse to bring a child into a broken home. My body my choice https://t.co/KuR2sVpvT8
