The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that the Electoral Commission (EC) yielded to pressure from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to conduct a rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election.

In a post shared on his X page on Wednesday, July 2, 2024, he wrote, “The EC has capitulated under the backbreaking pressure of the NDC and government to re-run the Ablekuma North parliamentary election in 19 stations, which differs from how they resolved Dome Kwabenya. Why didn’t the EC do a re-run in Dome Kwabenya?

“The will of the good people of Ablekuma North will stand. Victory no matter what…”

The EC’s latest decision follows unsuccessful attempts to re-collate the results.

The seat is being contested by Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Nana Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His comments come after the Electoral Commission of Ghana announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, following disputes over the authenticity of results from the December 7, 2024 general election.

According to the EC, the rerun is necessary because, although the scanned pink sheets from the constituency were approved by party agents, they were not verified by the presiding officers.

The rerun will take place in 19 of the 37 polling stations in the constituency, as the remaining 18 stations were not affected by the dispute.
