    The Ghana Nurses Association, DFW (GNA-DFW) a non-profit organization, is set to embark on medical missions in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital.

    GNA-DFW, as a non-profit organization, was formed in 2008 by six nurses in the Dallas Fort Worth area of Texas.

    The association comprises registered nurses, nurse practitioners, a radiology technician and an ultrasound tech.

    Their mission is to advocate for policies that promote health equity, mobilize supplies and equipment for rural area clinics and support health institutions lacking resources.

    As part of GNA’s mission they embark on a biennial medical mission to Ghana where they donate medical equipment and supplies to health facilities in deprived communities. GNA Members also get to work with the staff of these facilities to learn, share ideas, encourage and offer support to their counterparts in Ghana.

    They also visit the nursing training schools and offer encouragement and support to the students as well. Some of the facilities which have benefited in previous projects are the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Hospital (KATH) and Ho Teaching Hospital.

    Other beneficiaries are the Pantang Nursing college and Ho Nursing Training College.

    This year, the GNA – DFW is visiting the Tamale Hospital who have already received donation of a 20-foot container full of hospital supplies and equipment.

    The team of health care providers also provide free health screening and health counseling to a community in Yapei and Tamale.

    A team comprising 14 of its members traveling from Dallas will converge in Ghana for this project.

    The 14 memebrs are; Gloria Dattey (President), Becky Oteng-Mensah (Vice President), Nana Kankam (Media Executive), Joan Asafo-Agyei (Founder), Linda Anie (Co-Founder), Margaret Quartey-Papafio (Member), Mavis Armah (member), Robert Henking (Member), Franklina Asabre (Member), Larissa Kankam (Member), Jordan Kankam (Medical Student), Dr. Grace Darko (Member), Alice Mprah (Member) and Dr. Gifty Twumasi (Member). Special appreciation goes out to Nana Ama Adomako (Mrs.) GNA-DFW liaison in Ghana, The Grace Foundation and Readers Bay Foundation.
