The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) has officially launched the 2025 edition of Insurance Awareness Month in Accra.

This year’s month-long celebration is being held under the theme “Inclusivity and Accessibility: Purpose Beyond Profit,” which seeks to promote an inclusive environment where everyone can access insurance products, regardless of their personal or corporate circumstances.

Speaking at the launch event, held at the newly commissioned ultra-modern Insurance House in Kanda, Greater Accra Region, the 1st Vice Chairman of the GIA, Mr. Nashiru Iddrisu, emphasised that the purpose of the awareness month is to make insurance inclusive and accessible to all.

According to him, the campaign is designed to deepen public understanding of insurance concepts and educate people on how insurance can serve as a valuable tool for mitigating potential personal and professional risks.

Mr. Iddrisu, who is also the Managing Director of Hollard Life Assurance Ghana Ltd, added that the month-long initiative aims to raise awareness among industry stakeholders about systemic barriers that prevent vulnerable groups, such as persons with disabilities and those living in remote communities, from accessing insurance services.

The idea of dedicating a month to insurance awareness was first introduced a few years ago by the then leadership of the GIA, who recognized the need to educate the public on the importance of insurance and address key issues to improve insurance services and visibility in Ghana.

Some of the key activities planned for the 2025 Insurance Awareness Month include the GIA Insurance Games, which will be held at the University of Ghana Athletics Oval on July 5, 2025. This event aims to foster camaraderie and healthy competition among insurance industry players.

Additionally, the first-ever GIA Street Insurance Campaign will be launched in Kumasi, Takoradi, Cape Coast, and Accra from July 8 to July 11, 2025. The street campaign is expected to bring insurance education directly to the public in these major cities.

The month-long celebration will also feature the Insurance Solutions Forum and a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative focused on supporting the Nima-Kanda Community.

Another major highlight is the Insurance Fair and Clinics, organised in collaboration with the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL). This platform will allow insurance companies to showcase their products and engage directly with the insuring public.

According to Mr. Franklin Sowah, Director of Marketing at GCGL, this year’s fair promises to be bigger and more interactive than previous editions.

Furthermore, promoting a healthy lifestyle is a key objective for insurance industry practitioners.

As part of the celebrations, the industry’s annual games are organised to foster social connections, encourage exercise, relieve stress, and provide entertainment through sporting activities.

Insurance companies have already begun building excitement for the games, engaging in friendly banter and sharing promotional videos to stir up healthy competition and team spirit.

The Insurance Awareness Month Celebration (IAMC) is an annual event observed by all insurers and reinsurers in Ghana.
