By MATT JONES FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA

    Published: 04:36 EDT, 28 June 2025 | Updated: 05:08 EDT, 28 June 2025

Human remains have been found a month after the suspicious disappearance of Joshua Bishop – with a 27-year-old man now in custody.

The 23-year-old was last seen by his housemate on Lalor Cresent in Sunbury, north-west of Melbourne, at about 9.30pm on May 27.

Mr Bishop was reported missing by his mother two days later and a wide-scale search was launched.

Police scoured a park in Broadmeadows after his phone was tracked there on the same day he was last seen but no trace of Mr Bishop was found.

Victoria Police confirmed on Saturday night a body had been found in a house on Erinbank Crescent in Westmeadows after a search warrant was carried out.

The body is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established and a 27-year-old man was arrested. No charges have been laid.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Mr Bishop’s parents had earlier made a heartbreaking public plea to the public for help in finding their son, with his father Travis saying they just wanted him home safe.

‘We want him to know we love him, we’re here for him,’ he said.

‘I don’t know how people go through this. We’re all just praying that he’s safe. We’re hurting… we’re not coping.’

Mr Bishop’s mother Kristie said her son was ‘really open with me’.

‘We had a really good relationship,’ she said.

‘This is not something he would do unless he felt he had to. This is just… definitely out of character.’

Mr Bishop’s phone and bank accounts were inactive since his disappearance.

His abandoned car, a white Toyota Corolla, was discovered by investigators on Ridley Street, in Albion, on June 4.

Friends of Mr Bishop believed his car was stolen but no formal theft report was filed.

Earlier this month detectives said they were looking into whether Mr Bishop may have been involved in criminal activity prior to his disappearance.

‘The more time passes without us hearing from Joshua or getting any information about his whereabouts, the more we believe his disappearance is likely to be suspicious,’ Acting Detective Sergeant Matthew Wilson-Hawe said.
