The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has issued a stern warning to individuals who act as agents in passport acquisition, commonly known as “goro boys,” for their continued interference in the process.

He stated that his administration has zero tolerance for such individuals and will not allow them to compromise the integrity of the system.

“We will not allow goro boys to infiltrate the system,” he said during a press briefing in Accra on Thursday June 26, 2025.

Ablakwa explained that these middlemen have devised new methods to circumvent the system by acting as couriers, as the current reforms at the passport office have significantly restricted their access to the process.

“We have also noted that since the reforms we have implemented eliminated goro boys, those notorious middlemen who took advantage of the inefficiencies of the old system to exploit Ghanaians, these goro boys, who are no longer having their way, are now trying to fashion a new entry point. I want them to know that we will not tolerate them,” he emphasised.

The minister also confirmed that the reduction in the cost of ordinary passport booklets from GH¢500 to GH¢350 is in full effect, adding that the Ghanaian passport is a security document and must be treated with the utmost seriousness.
