Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, widely known as Agradaa, has suffered a legal blow after the Tema High Court dismissed her application to strike out a GH¢20 million defamation suit filed against her by gospel singer Empress Gifty.

The court also imposed a GH¢6,000 fine on Agradaa for wasting the court’s time, citing the absence of her legal representatives at a prior hearing.

The development was confirmed by Empress Gifty’s husband, Hopeson Adorye, who addressed supporters gathered outside the courtroom.

“The court ordered her to pay GH¢6,000 to Empress,” he revealed.

In a further move, the court granted a temporary injunction barring Agradaa from mentioning Empress Gifty’s name or making any defamatory comments about her across all social media platforms.

The gospel artiste’s legal battle was on the back of an explosive live broadcast aired on May 13, 2025, during which Agradaa allegedly accused Empress Gifty of engaging in indecent acts involving religious leaders and made further demeaning remarks.

The defamation suit, officially filed on May 20, seeks GH¢20 million in damages and a permanent injunction to prevent any further defamatory remarks. Empress Gifty also asked the court to order the removal of the offending content from all online platforms.

An earlier hearing on June 11 was stalled when Agradaa’s legal team failed to appear, claiming improper service of court documents. That absence led to further delays and ultimately cost Agradaa the GH¢6,000 fine.

Meanwhile, Agradaa is also reported to have hurled insults at a lawyer involved in the matter. A formal demand letter has since been served, requesting a retraction and public apology.

With the preliminary hurdles now cleared, Empress Gifty’s main defamation case is set to proceed, with the next court appearance scheduled for July 16, 2025.
