Celebrated Ghanaian comedian Foster Romanus has issued a passionate call for greater support for the country’s comedy industry.

According to him, comedians in Ghana should be able to earn a living solely from their talent without having to rely on alternative sources of income.

Speaking in an interview with ShoBiz TV on June 26, 2025, Romanus emphasized that talented comedians should not hide their gifts but rather focus on pursuing their passion.

However, he cautioned that building a thriving stand‑up career in Ghana depends heavily on proper compensation, which he believes is currently lacking.

“One can live off stand‑up gigs only if they get paid well,” Romanus stated.

He urged both aspiring and established comedians to showcase their talents, saying,

“I always tell people not to hide their talent. The only thing that can make you successful is when you’re plying your passion.”

Unfortunately, Romanus noted that many comedians continue to face financial challenges.

“Comedy … should be able to take care of you … but only if Ghanaians pay well,” he lamented.

He attributed the problem to a lack of adequate support from both corporations and the general public.

Romanus has previously called for increased investment in infrastructure and programmes to help grow and sustain Ghana’s comedy industry.
