Award-winning Ghanaian musician, Eugene Marfo, popularly known as Kuami Eugene has opened up about how a trip to the Volta Region back in 2016 played a significant role in shaping his musical destiny.

The interview, which took place in Kuami Eugene’s private studio, saw the “Angela” hitmaker speak about the challenges he faced before fame came knocking.

Kuami Eugene credited the church as his first training ground, revealing that it was within that space that he learned almost everything he knows about music today, including all the instruments he is able to play.

He however noted that while the spiritual and musical growth was immense, the financial benefits were almost non-existent.

Kuami Eugene mentioned that while the people in the church acknowledged his talent and gave him the chance to play at of their private events, in the end, the money he could make was just enough for transportation and sometimes just food.

According to the “Open Gate” crooner, everything changed after he made an unexpected trip to the Volta Region with a friend in 2016.

Kuami Eugene mentioned that he believes that trip marked a turning point in his life.

He recalled that shortly after returning to Accra from Volta, he auditioned for the MTN Hitmaker reality show, where he emerged as the second runner-up when it ended.

The talented producer added that the exposure at the show helped him to land the Lynx Entertainment deal that made him who he is today.

He went on to add that after the signing, he gradually warm up his place to the top and won the Unsung Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in his first year with Lynx.

The next year, as well, he took home the New Artiste of the Year, and in a historic third successive year, Kuami Eugene clinched the Artiste of the Year at the then Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

While he does not reveal what he really went to do in the Volta region at the time, all his says is that that journey was a turning point for his career.
