The Minority in Parliament has issued a stern call to action amid growing concerns over the safety of nearly 1,000 Ghanaians reportedly stranded in Israel.

In a statement released by the Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minority criticised what it described as the government’s delayed response to the escalating Israel-Iran conflict.

They are demanding immediate action to evacuate Ghanaians following border closures and reports of scores being displaced in Iran amid escalating missile exchanges between the two nations.

“It is unacceptable that the authorities failed to act with the urgency required, despite clear early warning signs that the conflict was worsening.

This delay reflects a troubling degree of inefficiency, ineffectiveness, and a lack of proactive leadership at a time when swift action was imperative,” the statement read.

The Minority is pressing for the immediate activation of all diplomatic and logistical channels through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the safe evacuation of Ghanaians from both Israel and Iran.

“We call on the Ministry to urgently develop a comprehensive evacuation strategy, in coordination with Ghana’s diplomatic missions, international partners, and other relevant stakeholders.

The apparent paralysis in the State’s ability to protect and assist its citizens in this time of crisis is deeply regrettable and utterly unacceptable,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that 922 Ghanaians currently in Israel are being supported with access to bomb shelters as tensions intensify.

Evacuations from Iran are underway via land routes, while consular staff are coordinating logistics and managing a newly established emergency consular fund.
