President John Dramani Mahama has said that he would be excited to grant British boxer, Anthony Joshua, a Ghanaian passport if he wants to become a citizen.

The President’s remark follows, the British boxing superstar, Anthony Joshua’s visit to President John Mahama at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 16, 2025.

The development follows his arrival in Ghana on June 13, where he was warmly received by fans and dignitaries.

The visit highlighted his engagement with Ghanaian officials and his interest in strengthening sports and cultural ties between the UK and Ghana.

During the engagement, Joshua expressed his admiration for Ghana’s vibrant culture and warm hospitality.

“I’m really impressed with your beautiful country, amazing culture, hospitality, the airport, organisation, and I can’t wait to go back and tell the world how beautiful this place is,” he stated.

President Mahama also expressed his joy in having the British boxer in Ghana and indicated that he can give him a Ghanaian passport if he desired to be Ghanaian.

“We are happy to have you. You’re an icon. If you want us to give you a Ghanaian passport, we will give you,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Joshua is preparing for his next fight, with potential opponents including Moses Itauma, Jared Anderson, or Deontay Wilder.

With a professional record of 28 wins and four losses, and having secured gold at the 2012 Olympics, Joshua remains a significant figure in global boxing.

His trip to Ghana underscores his commitment to building connections and promoting the sport in Africa.
