Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, a Court of Appeal judge nominated for appointment to the Supreme Court, has dismissed claims that judges accept bribes before carrying out their duties.

During his vetting for his new role on Monday, June 16, 2025, by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, he stated that such perceptions stem from weak legal arguments and misinformation, rather than actual incidents of bribery.

When asked about recent survey findings indicating a decline in public confidence in the judiciary, the judge acknowledged that such concerns were valid.

However, he emphasised that many of the accusations and allegations lacked supporting evidence.

Justice Dominic further explained that negative perceptions about the judiciary often stem from plaintiffs who, after losing their cases, wrongly conclude that corruption influenced the outcome.

He further cautioned that individuals making such accusations should be called out rather than generalising the entire judiciary.

He said, “People lose cases and assume it’s because they didn’t pay a bribe. Sometimes, the reality is that the case is simply weak.

“If anyone pays a bribe, they should name the individual involved rather than generalise the accusation.”

He also urged Ghanaians to report misconduct with clear evidence, rather than spreading unverified allegations.

“We must educate the public about the consequences of corruption, but we must also avoid making claims that are not based on facts,” he added.
