The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, along with members of the Police Management Board, paid a working visit to the Police Hospital in Accra on April 13, 2025, to commend the hospital’s administration and staff for their effective handling of the surge in patients during the strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Commissioner of Police, Dr Otu Nyarko who received the IGP and his team informed them that over the past one week, the hospital saw over 300% increase in the number of patients who visit the hospital to access medical care.

A similar situation was reported at the Police Hospital, Kumasi and other Police clinics across the country. He added that even though this brought some pressure on the hospital, contingency measures were put in place to manage the situation.

In addition, all doctors on annual leave and study leave were called back to duty in order to ensure that no person in need of health care was turned away.

The IGP commended the Medical Director and his team for their sense of duty and thanked them for their invaluable service during such critical moments.

He urged all the officers and the civilian staff of the hospital to continue to work hard to save lives and ensure that every patient who calls at the hospital receives the needed medical attention.

He further noted that the recent commissioning of the Police Hospital at Kumasi could not have come at a better time.

The IGP gave assurances of the Police Administration’s readiness to continue to provide the support necessary to improve service delivery at the hospital and all other Police medical facilities.
