Richie Mensah, CEO of Lynx Group Limited, the parent company of Lynx Entertainment, has called for a more empathetic view of artiste exits from record labels, emphasizing that it’s unfair to restrict musicians from moving on.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes, Richie tackled the recurring question about why artistes often leave his label, including former signee Eazzy. He stressed that contractual relationships between artistes and labels should not be treated as lifelong obligations.

“I never think like that because first of all, it will be selfish to say an artiste should never leave. You know, how a label and artistes contract works is that you put somebody on; you help the person to a point but it gets to a point, they can sort of handle things for themselves. So, they don’t need as much support as they did in the beginning. At that point, it’s now up to them if they want to keep continuing with support or they want to find their own path,” he said.

While he fully supports their independence, Richie admitted there are times when the departures leave him emotionally conflicted. He often feels there’s more he could do to elevate the artiste’s journey.

Still, he emphasized that he never resents their decisions to part ways.

Recounting his early years in the business, Richie recalled only one instance that truly caught him off guard: the exit of Asem, Lynx’s first signed act.

“The one that surprised me the most was Asem because that was the first time it happened,” he revealed.
