Ghanaian artiste, Black Sherif, says his latest nod from the BET Awards transported him straight back to his teenage years, an emotional reminder of dreams once shared in high school corridors.

Speaking in a recent interview, the artiste recounted how the moment he learned of his 2025 BET Awards nomination sparked a wave of nostalgia. The call came from his brother.

“My brother called me,” Sherif revealed.

That brief call triggered a flood of memories from his youth.

“You know, two years before this, we won the Best International Award at BET Hip Hop. And when he told me, it’s like, my mind just went back to high school. We used to talk about stuff like this. When we graduate high school, what are we going to do, the type of videos we’re going to shoot, this, in case, maybe BET,” he stated.

Nominated in the ‘Best International Act’ category, Black Sherif joins a diverse group of global performers in the running, including Nigeria’s Rema and Ayra Starr, South Africa’s Tyla, Eswatini’s Uncle Waffles, Brazil’s Any Gabrielly and Luanna, France’s Joé Dwèt Filé and SDM, and the UK’s Basky and Ezra Collective.

In 2023, Black Sherif clinched the BET Hip Hop Award for Best International Flow, an achievement that hinted at the momentum now propelling him onto even bigger stages.
