Beloved Ghanaian actress and TV personality Nana Ama McBrown has shared a powerful and emotional story about her early struggles with education, revealing that she dropped out of secondary school due to unpaid fees.

In an exclusive interview with Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day, the award-winning actress recounted how financial hardship forced her to leave Prince of Peace Girls Secondary School before she could complete her first year.

“I started at Prince of Peace Girls Secondary, but I couldn’t finish Form 1,” she revealed. “I didn’t pay my school fees and I was so embarrassed. I just felt like, this is not me. Let me step out.”

McBrown described the humiliation she felt whenever a teacher entered the classroom, triggering glances from classmates who knew she would be asked to leave.

“Everybody will turn and look at me because they know I’m going home,” she said.

“That time, we were young, so we couldn’t think it would be well. I just felt like it’s a disgrace.”

Despite the shame and emotional weight of that experience, McBrown didn’t allow it to limit her future. She later enrolled in the College of Business Studies—not out of necessity, but to avoid the stigma of not being in school.

“I enroled in College of Business Studies, Bella, knowing that I would not need that certificate for anything,” she admitted. “But people were just asking that question—‘why are you not in school?’—and I felt embarrassed.”
