Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, Kofi Okyere Darko, well-known in Ghana’s entertainment circles as KOD, has shared a revealing story about his early connection to business magnate Osei Kwame Despite.

Speaking at the grand opening of Despite’s newly unveiled auto museum in East Legon on June 1, 2025, KOD recounted how, as a teenager in secondary school, he once sold music cassettes and CDs under the employment of the renowned entrepreneur.

“When I was a teenager, I used to sell cassette and I worked from Lumba’s shop and I worked for Despite. That was my secondary school job. My introduction to the music industry and everything, this is part of the story,” KOD said during an interview with blogger Ghhyper.

He noted that this early job became a formative experience that influenced his eventual path into the music and broadcasting space. KOD credited his time selling music as a stepping stone in what would later become a prominent career in media and public service.

Their working relationship, KOD explained, laid the foundation for the long-standing bond he shares with Osei Kwame Despite today.

He also revealed that he was nearly part of the original team that launched Peace FM, one of Ghana’s most popular radio stations. However, a prior commitment at another station kept him from joining.

“When Peace FM was being established, I was one of the quiet voices that was going to start but I was working at Radio Gold so I couldn’t show my face,” KOD recalled.
