Pastor and marriage counsellor at Fountain Gate Chapel, Rev. Anthony Selom Dzadzra has strongly rebuked men who justify the mistreatment of women under the guise of paying dowry.

During his address at the 2025 Woman Redefined Conference in Accra, held under the theme “Arise, Shine, and Impact”, Rev. Dzadzra criticised the abusive behaviour some men exhibit after paying dowry.

“It’s bad. How can you be with somebody’s daughter, only daughter, somebody’s only sister, or somebody’s girlfriend and say because you’ve paid something called dowry, you can slap her face, take food from her, or ignore her for a month?” he questioned.

He continued, “Are you mad? You refuse to provide for her and neglect her, all because you call yourself a man?”

The pastor’s remarks drew reactions from the audience at the conference and have since sparked reactions online.

Held on May 31, 2025, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, the conference sought to empower, transform and uplift women from all walks of life.

Activities included breakout sessions, exhibitions, performances, and networking sessions that highlighted the achievements of women.
