Lionel Messi delivered another moment of brilliance on Saturday night, May 24, 2025, curling in a stunning free kick in the 87th minute to spark a dramatic comeback for Inter Miami.
His strike helped the Herons rally from a two-goal deficit to earn a thrilling 3-3 draw against Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park.
Down 3-1 late in the game, Messi stepped up from outside the box and fired a pinpoint effort into the top corner, cutting the deficit to one.
The goal was Messi’s sixth in just 11 league appearances this season, and he’s also registered three assists in the 2025 MLS campaign.
Philadelphia Union had the better start, with Quinn Sullivan opening the scoring in the 7th minute. Tai Baribo doubled their advantage just before halftime.
Inter Miami responded after the break, with Tadeo Allende heading home in the 60th minute to make it 2-1. But Baribo struck again in the 73rd minute to restore the Union’s two-goal cushion.
Then came Messi’s magic. His first free-kick goal of the 2025 season gave Inter Miami hope, and he wasn’t done yet.
In stoppage time, the Argentine maestro played a key role in setting up Telasco Segovia, who slotted home the equaliser in the 95th minute to complete the comeback.
The draw leaves Inter Miami sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference. With momentum back on their side, they now turn their attention to their upcoming clash with CF Montreal on May 28, 2025, at the Chase Stadium.
