The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has released what appears to be CCTV footage from an Accra-based restaurant in an effort to disprove allegations made in a petition filed by Alfred Ababio Kumi.

The petition calls for the dissolution of the five-member committee probing the removal of embattled Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

In a post on his Facebook account on Thursday, May 22, 2025, Edudzi Tameklo, in a 10-point write-up accompanying the video, which has no sound, stated that the footage completely contradicts the claims made by the petitioner, Alfred Kumi.

According to him, lawyer Thaddeus Sory, a legal representative for one of the petitioners seeking the removal of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, was seated at the restaurant with Kotei Dzani, a former Council of State member, talking and eating together at a table.

He further stated that Sory appeared unaware of the presence of one of the judges implicated in the petition until his attention was drawn to it.

After a brief conversation, they each continued with their separate business. He added that no such meeting to discuss the petition took place.

“This is the so-called dinner, NPP and its media has been making so much noise about this week. They claim a lawyer for one of Petitioners met with some Supreme Court judges including Justice Pwamang, and Justice Asiedu. They aimed to create an impression that this meeting was to discuss the petition. The attached video footage shows clearly and tells a completely different story,” parts of his post read.

Edudzi, who is also a lawyer, further stated that Justice Pwamang, the chairman of the committee probing the Chief Justice, was not at the restaurant as alleged by the petitioner, Alfred Kumi. He described the entire encounter as colleagues seeing each other in a public space and simply exchanging pleasantries.

“… What the video shows clearly is that, contrary to the poisonous allegations, Justice Pwamang was not in the video. The video also shows clearly that there was no meeting the person alleged. The video also shows that, what happened is akin to seeing a colleague in town and exchanging pleasantries without more. The video also shows clearly that, Justice Asiedu passed without even noticing the presence of Thaddeus Sory in the restaurant until Justice Kulendi alerted him. The video labelled entrance shows the three persons including Justice Kulendi enter or leave the restaurant,” he added.

His comments follow a petition by Alfred Kumi, a former parliamentary aspirant on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who cited allegations of misconduct in his petition, which he believes could compromise the integrity of the inquiry.

Kumi alleged that on May 15, 2025, after the committee’s inaugural sitting, Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu, along with Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi, were seen dining with Thaddeus Sory, counsel for petitioner Daniel Ofori, at Santoku Restaurant in Accra’s Airport Residential Area.

He claimed they were overheard discussing matters related to the petition.

“The meeting between Justices Pwamang, Kulendi, and Asiedu with Thaddeus Sory clearly has tainted the integrity of the process and reduces public confidence in the process,” a report by asaaseradio.com quoted Kumi’s petition.
