Ghanaians were left in shock upon receiving news that highlife musician Dada Kwaku Duah, popularly known as Dada KD, passed away on May 16, 2025, at the age of 56.

As music lovers and industry stakeholders mourned his passing, renewed attention was brought to a Facebook post he made in 2020 following the death of actor Bishop Bernard Nyarko.

Bernard Nyarko had suddenly passed on May 3, 2020, after an unknown illness, leaving many in shock.

Taking to his Facebook handle upon hearing the news, Dada KD wrote:

“May your gentle soul find you a perfect place to keep you, Bishop Bernard Nyarko. My regards to Kofi B and tell him it won’t be long; I’ll join you all too soon. Our industry sucks.”

This message, expressing deep frustration with the state of Ghana’s music industry, was seen by many as a cry for help.

Dada KD had long been vocal about the challenges faced by musicians in Ghana, lamenting the lack of support and recognition for artists.

In a 2020 interview, he stated, “We celebrate the dead more than the living… People are still enjoying my music but they are not asking how I am surviving.”

Fast-forward to 2025, and Dada KD has passed after battling an unknown illness.

His death has reignited conversations about the well-being of artists in Ghana. Many are calling for systemic changes to provide better support for musicians, ensuring that their contributions are recognised and valued during their lifetimes.
