Ghanaian Youngster Jerry Afriyie Continues Impressive Form with Crucial Goal for CD Lugo

Ghanaian youngster Jerry Afriyie continued his impressive run of form in Spain’s Primera Federación with a crucial goal on Saturday, May 17, 2025, helping CD Lugo secure a vital 2-0 win over Zamora CF.

The win moves Lugo one step closer to avoiding relegation as the season approaches its climax.

Afriyie, 18, has now registered two goals and an assist in his last four matches—a significant contribution at a critical time for Lugo.

His performance on Saturday underlined his growing influence within the team, delivering a moment of quality that effectively sealed all three points.

The breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Zamora defender Kike misjudged a set-piece delivery and headed into his own net under pressure.

Lugo capitalized on the momentum, keeping Zamora at bay while pushing for a second goal.

Midway through the second half, Afriyie stepped up. Latching onto a long pass near the center circle, he displayed superb vision and technique, delicately lifting the ball over the advancing Zamora goalkeeper.

The goal not only showcased his composure but also highlighted his understanding of space and timing.

Zamora introduced Ghanaian midfielder Eugene Frimpong in the second half, but his presence wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

With this victory, Lugo inch closer to safety, and Afriyie’s form could prove to be the decisive factor in their bid for survival.
