Ghanaian Highlife veteran Dada Kwaku Duah, popularly known as Dada KD, has passed away, leaving a deep void in the country’s music scene. His manager, King Pee, confirmed the tragic news and dismissed speculations surrounding the circumstances of his death.

Speaking to Ghana Weekend on Saturday, May 17, 2025, King Pee disclosed that Dada KD fell suddenly ill on the evening of Friday, May 16. According to him, the singer became unresponsive, prompting his househelp to notify close associates. He was rushed to the Gbawe SDA Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Dada KD wasn’t sick. He suddenly went quiet, and when we rushed him to the hospital, he couldn’t make it,” King Pee recounted.

While the family prepares an official statement, King Pee used the opportunity to debunk rumours circulating on social media, which claimed the singer died in poverty or under controversial circumstances.

“Dada KD was not broke. He was doing very well,” King Pee stressed. “He was supposed to submit his UK visa application today for a show next Saturday. He didn’t have issues with anyone.”

He also dismissed a widely circulated video suggesting the musician was in distress, clarifying that it was filmed five years ago during an interview with Kofi Adoma and does not reflect his recent condition.

Dada KD, who gained national acclaim for timeless Highlife hits like Yebeye Yen Ho Fi, Obiaa Se Eye, Odo Mu Anigye, Ene Me Nye, and So Mu Gye, is survived by five children and a fiancée in the United States.

His untimely death is a painful blow to fans of traditional Ghanaian music and a significant loss to the nation’s cultural heritage.
