The President of Citizen Eye Ghana, Alex Tetteh, has heaped praises on the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah for his role in the appreciation of the local currency in recent times.

According to him, Debrah’s “quiet yet strategic” leadership has also led to the boosting of investor confidence in the country.

“While others branded themselves as economic whiz kids and watched the cedi crash, Julius Debrah focused on delivering results,” Tetteh said in an interview.

Tetteh emphasized the need for practical leadership rooted in governance experience rather than academic theory.

He cited Debrah’s track record as a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, and his mentorship under Presidents Rawlings, Atta Mills, and Mahama as proof of his readiness for national leadership.

“He doesn’t just understand politics from textbooks, he’s lived it,” Tetteh noted, calling Debrah “the most effective Chief of Staff Ghana has seen in the last 16 years.”

Ghana’s local currency, the cedi, has recorded marginal gains against major trading currencies, particularly the US dollar, at some forex bureaus.

In its daily update, the Central Bank noted that the cedi is trading at a buying price of GH¢12.8 and a selling price of GH¢12.89 to a dollar.

The British pound is being bought at GH¢17.02 and sold at GH¢17.04, while the euro trades at a buying price of GH¢14.32 and a selling price of GH¢14.34.

Checks by GhanaWeb Business on May 13, 2025, at 08:00 AM indicate that the cedi is trading at GH¢13.85 to the dollar, while the pound is trading at GH¢18.70 at some major forex bureaus across the country.

Additionally, the euro is trading at GH¢16.00 on the retail market.
