Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, has expressed concerns that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has shifted its focus from core values to materialism and money-driven pursuits.

He lamented that this trend is prevalent among party members and the public, highlighting a perceived disconnect from the party’s foundational principles.

Speaking in an interview with Asaasepa Radio, Patrick Yaw Boamah condemned the practice of idolizing wealthy party members, arguing that such conduct is detrimental to the growth of the party.

“We used to follow selfless people, but today, when someone acquires wealth—regardless of how they came by it—they are praised by party members. But we don’t build a party like this. Someone can be rich, and another poor. Professor Adu Boahene was a university lecturer. Kufuor was not a millionaire when he came to power. Akufo-Addo was not a millionaire.

But when the party elects someone and gives them the blessing to lead, we all have a duty to support that individual. This is because we know that the person is going to work in line with the values and principles of the party based on our philosophy. There has been a shift in the way we used to be loyal, dedicated, and committed to the true values of the party. This has left many party members materialistic, with their actions driven by monetary gain,” Patrick Yaw Boamah lamented.
