For folks in Kumasi and many parts of Ghana, one voice they became very used to was that of Eleanor Effe Amanor, popularly known as Mama each weekday afternoon, after the midday news on Nhyira FM and later on Adom TV.

Sadly however, on her 65th birthday on Monday, May 5, 2025, Mama Effe officially signed off from the microphone, bringing to a close a monumental 28-year journey in broadcasting with the Kumasi branch of the Multimedia Group.

What began in 1997 as a humble role on Luv FM’s Awaremo Nkomo soon transformed into a remarkable legacy when she took charge of Obra on Nhyira FM in 2005.

Tasked with boosting audience engagement, Mama Effe instead built a platform that would become a national institution that offered a voice to the voiceless and hope to the hurting.

Her approach to radio was revolutionary. Mama Effe combined empathy with boldness, offering a space where real issues were tackled with sensitivity and truth.

Her show addressed domestic conflicts, social injustices, and personal struggles, often helping listeners find resolution and comfort.

Beyond the microphone, Mama Effe mentored a generation of broadcasters, especially women, instilling in them a strong sense of purpose and responsibility.

Her work earned her widespread recognition, including a Lifetime Achievement in Media Excellence Award at the 2025 Career Excellence Awards in the Ashanti Region.

Now retired, Mama Effe leaves a space that will be hard to fill.
