Ghanaian musician, Patapaa, has claimed that his hit song ‘One Corner’ is more influential and globally recognised than any song by Black Sherif.
Speaking on the ‘Savage Room’ podcast on April 29, 2025, Patapaa argued that Black Sherif’s popularity is largely confined to the Nigeria space due to his affiliation with Empire Records.
“Black Sherif is signed under the Empire label, so his songs are popular in Nigeria, not globally. I am a global artiste. Which of his songs has gone international? Even my song with Kawoula is bigger than all of his. Since he is under a Nigerian label, he is basically a Nigerian artiste. Haven’t you noticed Ghanaians don’t vibe to his songs anymore since the hype died down?,” he quizzed.
Patapaa also claimed that the widespread appeal of ‘One Corner’ led to Nigerian TikToker Peller visiting Ghana, a move he says was influenced by Shatta Wale.
“I didn’t give Peller a cedi to promote my song. He made a video because ‘One Corner’ was already popular. It went viral across Europe. Shatta Wale invited him to Ghana because of that video.
“I was shocked when Peller came to Ghana, I wasn’t even in the country at the time. Nigerians don’t usually play Ghanaian music, apart from VIP and my song,” he added.

I agree with whatever Patapaa is saying about Black Sherif here. “One Corner” is bigger than any of Blacko’s songs so far! pic.twitter.com/6FNnqcuaSk
