Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has stated that his successor, Kwesi Nyantakyi‘s exploits in African and world football paved the way for Kurt Okraku.

He explained that Nyantakyi, who was the First Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and a member of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Council, during his reign as GFA President, made a good mark for the nation.

The Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak asserted that these achievements of his successor contributed to the election of current GFA President Kurt Okraku as the Second Vice-President of CAF.

Dr Tamakloe stated that football officials from Ghana are benefiting from the high standards Nyantakyi set globally.

“My successor, Kwesi Nyantakyi, if he hadn’t encountered difficulties, would have been in very high positions, not only in Africa but globally. He left an indelible mark at CAF, and that has paved the way for Kurt.

“Kwesi performed excellently; he knew football. I worked with him and can testify to his knowledge. His achievements pushed Ghana forward, and Kurt is now benefiting from that legacy,” he said during an interview with Graphic Sports.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced that Kurt Okraku was elected as the Second Vice-President of the body during an Executive Council meeting held in Accra on April 26, 2025.

The appointment was necessary as Motsepe seeks to restructure leadership after four of CAF’s five previous vice-presidents resigned from their roles.
