The Cleveland Guardians have released a statement after one of their fans mocked Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran over his admitted suicide attempt.
Prior to the bottom of the seventh inning in a game against Cleveland, Duran was seen yelling at a fan who mocked the Boston star for the horrifying ordeal.
The incident occurred after Duran flied out in the game and began making his way back to the dugout.
According to NESN personality and former Red Sox third-baseman Will Middlebrooks, a fan shouted out that Duran ‘should have killed himself when he had the chance’.
Duran informed umpires of what was said and that fan was ejected from the ballgame.
Both NESN and Cleveland’s broadcast reported that other Guardians fans were disgusted by the fan’s comments and scolded him as he was being led out of Progressive Field.

A statement from the Guardians read, ‘We are aware of the situation that took place during today’s game between a fan and one of the Red Sox players that violated our fan conduct policy.
‘We recognize the gravity of the behavior at issue here and take very seriously conduct of this nature.
‘We apologize to the Red Sox organization, the player involved, fans in the area and are addressing the situation.
‘We have identified the fan in question and will work with Major League Baseball regarding next steps.
‘We strive to provide the best experience to visiting players and fans, and that fell short today.’
Duran revealed in the 2025 Netflix documentary ‘The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox’ that he attempted to take his own life in 2022.
‘I had my rifle and I had a bullet, and I pulled the trigger and the gun clicked, but nothing happened,’ Duran said in the docuseries.
Duran went 4-for-6 at the plate with an RBI as the Red Sox dominated the Guardians 13-3.

Last season, Duran finished eighth in voting for the American League MVP award after slashing .285/.342/.492 with a career-high 21 home runs and 75 RBI.
But Duran also gained notoriety for a homophobic slur he used against one of his own fans during a game.
After the heckler mocked Duran’s batting, saying that he should be using a tennis racket, the outfielder replied, ‘Shut up you f***ing f****t.’
Duran apologized for his words through the team and he was suspended for two games. His salary for that missed action was donated to the Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
