Doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) have ended their two-day strike following the intervention of the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari II.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, a high-level delegation led by Zangbalun Naa Dr. Yakubu II, Chief of the Zangbalun Traditional Area, was dispatched by the Yaa Naa to mediate the impasse.

The report further indicated that a meeting was held on April 25, 2025, between the management of TTH and representatives of the Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH).

Following successful negotiations, emergency services at the major referral facility in Ghana’s northern sector have resumed, bringing relief to patients and residents.

Despite the suspension of the strike, the doctors remain resolute in their demand for a public apology from the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, before fully returning to duty at the Outpatient Department (OPD), according to sources cited by myjoyonline.com.

The health minister’s surprise visit to TTH on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, following the death of a patient, led to a heated clash with Dr. Valentine Akwulpwa, Head of the Accident and Emergency Department—sparking tensions within the hospital.

The Doctors’ Association subsequently declared an indefinite strike, halting emergency and outpatient services, and demanded apologies from both the health minister and Tamale North MP, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, for alleged disrespect.

Another issue that triggered the strike was the dismissal of the hospital’s CEO, Dr. Adam Atiku.

According to the health minister, the dismissal was due to alleged mismanagement and medical negligence that led to the patient’s death.
