Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Juliet Ibrahim has joined in actors who have expressed their frustration with some Ghanaian media houses fond of pirating their intellectual properties.

In a post shared on Instagram on April 23, 2025, Juliet Ibrahim accused Pemsan TV of consistently pirating her movies without her concern.

She emphasised despite numerous attempts to call the media house into order, all efforts have proven futile.

“I find it extremely disheartening to witness the blatant disregard for intellectual property rights by several TV stations operating within Ghana. Over the past few months, I’ve observed that some of my films originally and legally uploaded to my official YouTube channel Juliet Ibrahim Studios have been pirated, rebroadcast, and exploited by unauthorized Ghanaian television stations, including Pemsan TV, without my permission or that of my team.

“Despite repeated efforts by my management and legal representatives; who have sent cease and desist letters, contacted these networks directly, and offered an opportunity for a formal resolution Pemsan TV and others have continued to air my work unlawfully, ignoring our calls and refusing to do the needful,” she said.

The actress further called on the National Communications Authority (NCA) and other relevant institutions to act promptly in resolving the issue since it is financially affecting her business.

“This is not just a Nigerian issue; it is an African issue, and as a Ghanaian, I am ashamed that our local media houses are playing a central role in such unethical and illegal activities.

“Piracy is a crime. Exploiting someone’s hard-earned intellectual property is theft. It undermines years of investment, creativity, and the livelihoods of everyone involved in production from actors to editors, to camera operators. Please step in immediately. We need robust action, regulation, and enforcement to protect content creators and restore the dignity of our film industry,” she added.

Meanwhile the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, together with the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, Kafui Danku, has assured Nigerian actress cum filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye of swift action to protect her intellectual property rights in Ghana.

This follows Bimbo’s recent public outcry on social media, where she accused several Ghanaian television stations of broadcasting her films without permission.

According to the Nollywood actress and filmmaker, her works are being aired without proper authorisation, an act she described as a clear violation of intellectual property laws.
