    The Akabzaa family has announced the passing of Professor Thomas Mba Akabzaa, a revered academic, policy advisor, and public servant, who died on 17th April 2025 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), a statement copied to Harmattan Ghana confirms.

    The late Professor Akabzaa who had been recently appointed by President John Mahama as the Board Chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), was a towering figure in Ghana’s energy and natural resource governance sectors.

    With a career marked by intellectual brilliance and unwavering integrity, he served as Chief Director at the Ministry of Energy, shaping policies that propelled national development.

    His contributions extended beyond governance; he was a mentor and advocate for sustainable resource management, earning widespread respect across academia and government.

    The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested prayers during this difficult time.

    The funeral arrangements and memorial details will be announced later. We will keep you posted, keep tabs.

    The late Professor Akabzaa’s legacy rooted in service, scholarship, and leadership leaves an indelible mark on Ghana.

    As tributes pour in, the family and the nation by extension remembers a man whose life embodied dedication to progress and the public good.
