Dzodze Afeyeme, Volta Region – April 19, 2025

In a vibrant display of unity, culture, and shared heritage, the people of Dzodze Afeyeme and Afiadenyigba gathered for the maiden edition of the Dunenyo Family Reunion and Homecoming Summit. The historic event, held under the theme “Bringing the Community Together in the Interest of Peace, Unity, and Cultural Heritage,” marked the first time citizens of both communities united formally to celebrate their common roots.

In his welcome address, Togbui Akpabi VI, Dufia of Dzodze Afeyeme Traditional Area, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all guests and participants who traveled near and far to be part of the celebration.

“Today marks a significant moment in the life of our people,” he said. “This is not just a festival; it is a movement — a collective step forward to rediscover who we are, where we come from, and where we intend to go.”

The summit, which brought together chiefs, queens, elders, youth, and community members, aims to rekindle the historical ties between the two communities — ties rooted in shared ancestry, culture, and values.

A central focus of the event is a fundraising initiative to support the construction of a modern community centre estimated at GHS 500,000.00 According to Togbui Akpabi VI, the centre will serve as a multi-purpose hub for traditional council meetings, youth empowerment programs, and cultural activities.

“History gives us the answer to why we come together today. Our ancestors shared a common origin… they lived as one people, bound by shared values and mutual respect,” he emphasized, urging the community to restore that unity and build toward meaningful development.

The event saw the attendance of several dignitaries, including the Honourable Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, and representatives from across the diaspora. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, cultural displays, and a shared sense of purpose.

As the maiden Dunenyo Family Reunion concluded its opening day, hopes remain high that this initiative will become an annual tradition — one that strengthens communal bonds, fosters peace, and charts a path toward collective prosperity.
