Nigerian media personality and filmmaker, Stephanie Coker Aderinokun, has revealed that she once contemplated suicide following a failed IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) procedure, despite spending approximately $40,000 on the process.

Speaking in an interview on the “With Chude” podcast, Stephanie Coker recounted the emotional and financial toll the fertility journey had on her, stating that the disappointment from a failed attempt left her on the brink of despair.

According to the media personality, having gotten pregnant on her first try, she felt that she was on the right path, only to be met with devastation when the second attempt failed.

“It was a costly decision to decide on IVF, we are talking about $40,000 back then. I got pregnant on the first IVF and the second one failed and I wanted to stand in front of a car and just let the car hit me,” she said.

Stephanie Coker further explained that she travelled to Los Angeles to undergo the procedure and was devastated after receiving a call from a nurse who delivered the heartbreaking news.

She added that she felt so useless and was asking herself many questions and how she would be able to return to Lagos without a baby.

“I hated myself then because I felt I had travelled to Los Angeles to get pregnant, and the nurse called me to say, ‘Hi Stephanie, I am sorry to give you this bad news.’ I told the nurse I couldn’t go back home with no baby. I asked myself, ‘What did I spend all this money and time on?’” she said.

On the same platform, the likes of Ini Edo, who opted for surrogacy and Nse Ikpe-Etim, who had to remove her womb to save her life after being diagnosed with adenomyosis, along with many others, shared their struggles with fertility.
