Neymar’s injury troubles continued as the Santos star exited the match against Atlético Mineiro on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with what appeared to be a hamstring issue.
The 33-year-old had recently returned from six weeks on the sidelines due to a thigh injury, making his comeback against Fluminense on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
He was handed a starting role against Atlético-MG on Wednesday in what was meant to be a celebratory match, marking Neymar’s 100th appearance at Santos’ Vila Belmiro stadium.
To honor the milestone, he wore a special number 100 shirt.
However, the former Barcelona player was forced to leave the pitch after just 34 minutes when the medical team determined he could not continue. An emotional Neymar was visibly in tears as he was taken off the field.
While the extent of the injury remains unclear, head coach César Sampaio expressed hope that Neymar’s recovery would be swift.
“It’s still too early to provide a definitive answer; we don’t have a diagnosis yet. For now, we really have to pray it’s not something that will keep him out for long,” he said.
Since his return from Saudi club Al-Hilal, the former Paris Saint-Germain forward has played eight matches for Santos, scoring three goals.
