Medikal has been sued by Gospel group Alabaster Box for copyright infringement and is demanding GHS 15 million in damages.
In writ of summons from the High Court of Justice that has since gone viral, Alabaster Box alleged that Medikal’s new song, “Welcome to Africa,” unlawfully sampled their copyrighted song “Akwaaba.”
The group further emphasised that the first ten seconds of Medikal’s song are a derivative work of their original composition.
Alabaster Box, has been performing “Akwaaba,” for over three decades and gained international recognition, including a performance for the late Queen Elizabeth at Westminster Abbey.
