Nigerian singer Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML , has sparked a debate online following a statement he made in a recent interview.
Fireboy stated that something he finds rare and valuable in a woman is the ability to hold a good conversation and a sense of humour.
According to him, women who can hold a meaningful conversation and have a great sense of humour are uncommon and, when found, should be held close.
Speaking in the interview, the Vibration crooner said;
“If she can hold a conversation., Because to find a woman that can hold a conversation and has a sense of humour is rare, and it’s a blessing you got to hold on to that one, even if it’s a situationship.”
While some fans agreed with his take, the comment didn’t sit well with many women online, who argued that Fireboy’s statement came off as dismissive and implied that women generally lack depth or humour.
Below are some of the comments;
“Serious question. How smart and interesting does the average man think he is?”
“It’s ridiculous how men have positioned themselves as the gender with a great sense of humor and conversation. Lmao”
“The conversations: Are you a virgin? How many boys have you kissed? What’s the freakiest thing you’ve ever done? If I was here with you, what would we do together?”
“Sense of humor”, “hold a conversation” and 80% of the time it’s either football, betting, or dry (mostly insult-based jokes). The other 20% is a mix of pseudo-intellectual takes they learnt from podcasts and “grind-set” bros online and Facebook facts the world left 20 years ago.”
