A horrible accident occurred Friday night on the Abuakwa-Sunyani route, killing eight persons, including the driver of a private Mercedes-Benz. The collision between a VIP Jeoun Transport bus and a Mercedes-Benz saloon automobile resulted in significant damage and fatalities.

According to eyewitnesses, the collision occurred when the Mercedes-Benz driver attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speeds. In the process, he crashed with the VIP bus heading from Sunyani to Kumasi. The force of the collision was so intense that the Mercedes-Benz was completely destroyed and the bus was severely damaged, particularly on the front and top sides.

Shortly after the incident, emergency personnel arrived to the area. Unfortunately, seven passengers on the VIP bus were pronounced dead at the spot. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz died instantaneously as a result of the incident.

Photos from the scene show the crimson VIP bus wrecked, its windows shattered, the roof ripped apart, and debris spread everywhere. The bus appeared to have crashed or skidded off the road before coming to a stop. Rescue workers and police were seen working all night to recover dead and assist injured passengers.

The Ghana Police Service has opened an investigation into the disaster. According to preliminary accounts, the Mercedes-Benz driver’s reckless overtaking caused the tragic incident.

This regrettable incidence contributes to the rising frequency of vehicle accidents on Ghana’s roadways, increasing worries about driver discipline and road safety enforcement.
