Executive Secretary of the NFA, Kafui Danku-Pitcher
The National Film Authority (NFA) Executive Secretary, Kafui Danku-Pitcher, has stated that the proponents of an online petition who called for the president to revoke her appointment together with actor, James Gardiner’s, were likely not from the film industry.
It could be recalled that shortly after her appointment as the head of the NFA and James Gardiner as deputy Executive Secretary by President John Dramani Mahama in February 2025, a petition hosted on change.org argued that both appointees lacked the requisite industry experience and strategic vision to lead the NFA effectively.
It called for leadership by technocrats with deep industry knowledge to advance Ghana’s film sector and proceeded to propose alternative candidates for the roles.
Reacting to the backlash in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM on April 12, 2025, Danku-Pitcher said; “When I saw it, I called James and he burst out laughing. He was like ‘ignore it and go and sleep’; we both laughed.”
Danku-Pitcher further cast doubts about the proponents of the petition being industry players saying “I want to believe and the people in the industry also want to believe strongly that whoever did that may not be from our fraternity. There’s a name I saw but I want to believe that she must have done that with some really clueless people”.
Danku-Pitcher added; “If truly they are from our industry, I’ll be surprised because every now and then, we see people who are not even from the arts heading us; people who didn’t feel our pain, who haven’t been through the hustle with us but when it’s one of our own, they complain.”
Highlighting her relationship with players in the film industry in Ghana, Kafui Danku-Pitcher said; “My industry people know me. They know I listen. They know I take advice. They know I seek knowledge on things I am not very clear about.“
