Ghanaian musician, Samini, has revealed that his friend and colleague Kokoveli was the one who reminded him of a personal promise to pursue a university degree before turning 40.

Speaking in an interview on the ‘If More Let’s Divide’ podcast, Samini stated that although he had always wanted to pursue higher education, he did not immediately take that step after high school.

However, the desire to earn a degree remained with him, and it was a timely nudge from Kokoveli that brought that dream back into focus.

According to the reggae/dancehall musician, time passed quickly, and by age 38, he was yet to achieve that dream, until Kokoveli intervened.

He further emphasised that Kokoveli did not just bring up the promise but also took the initiative to pick up application forms for them to apply to university.

“Right after high school, I just knew I wasn’t going to university yet, but I always wanted to get a degree one day. I said I wanted to do that before age 40. Fast forward, I realized we were 38. Then Kokoveli called me and said, ‘Do you remember we said we would go to school?’ I said yes, and he said he had picked application forms for us to apply.

“Kokoveli reminded me that we had that promise to ourselves, and with just two years to 40, we might as well start and finish by 41,” Samini disclosed.

Samini and Kokoveli graduated with second-class honours in Project Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2023, where Samini also served as the SRC President.
