Tom Brady took to social media on Tuesday night to congratulate Birmingham City after the Blues won promotion to the Championship.

Thanks to a 2-1 win over Peterbrough courtesy of goals from Alfie May and Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Birmingham are assured of a place in the second tier next season.

With 95 points after 40 games and a 14-point gap to second-placed Wrexham, Birmingham are also virtually assured of the title – needing just one win from six games to secure the trophy.

And Brady, 47, posted on Instagram to offer his congratulations to the club he owns a minority share in.

He wrote: ‘Proud of you lads! Way to go Blues! Let’s keep it going!’

Adding another post on his story that featured a celebratory photo from the club’s official account, Brady added: ‘Straight back to the Championship and not done yet.

‘NFL fans are getting a crash course in the English football pyramid’.

Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, invested in Birmingham in August 2023.

Birmingham’s confirmation of promotion to the second tier comes after broke the League One spending record last summer after forking out £30m on signings.

That is around 22 times more than the second biggest-spending club, Peterborough, according to Transfermarkt.

Upon taking his 3.3 per cent stake in Birmingham City, Brady said they are ‘an iconic club with so much history’ and that it was a ‘real honour’ to join them.

He added: ‘Birmingham City is built on teamwork and determination and I’m excited to work alongside the board, management and players to make our second city club second to none.

‘I’ve been part of some amazing teams in my day, and I’m looking forward to applying my perspective to create that same success here in Birmingham.’
