The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has made another allegation of cocaine smuggling against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking in an interview on ChannelOne TV on April 5, 2025, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator claimed that a Parliamentary Candidate from the ruling NDC owns a portion of the recently intercepted cocaine shipment, estimated to be worth over $350 million.

Although he did not provide any evidence to back his claims, the NPP MP said the portion allegedly owned by the NDC Parliamentary Candidate is valued at $150 million.

He further alleged that the NDC, within its short time in office, has turned Ghana into a hub for illicit drug trafficking.

“When the NDC has been exposed for making Ghana a haven for drug trafficking… a high-profile cocaine bust, the President himself alluded to it. A $350 million bust, the biggest in over three decades, and it’s an NDC matter.

“And it was an NDC parliamentary candidate who owns that cocaine, the $150 million bit,” he claimed.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour, responding to questions about his earlier allegations of cocaine smuggling and money laundering, insisted that he is being attacked by NDC supporters because he is exposing individuals behind these illegal activities.

“So when we bring these exposés, it is expected that the NDC will be uncomfortable, frustrated, and come at me personally. I am not perturbed by that,” he added.

On April 1, 2025, Rev Ntim Fordjour, who is also the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, alleged during a press conference that two aircraft, an air ambulance and a private jet, might have been used for drug trafficking or money laundering.

He claimed that one of the aircraft, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20, 2025 and remained for five days with no record of transporting a patient.

    Background:

A massive cocaine consignment, totaling 3.3 tonnes, was recently intercepted by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) while being transported from the Western Region to Accra.

During the operation at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast on March 4, 2025, authorities discovered 143 bags of cocaine concealed under sand in a tipper truck travelling from Takoradi to Weija in Accra.

The truck, carrying two individuals, was intercepted following intelligence-led operations by the NIB.

Field tests conducted by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) confirmed the substance as raw cocaine. The initial seizure weighed 2,974 kilograms.

Subsequent operations on March 8 led NIB officers to a suspect’s residence, where they discovered 13 more bags and one additional bag of suspected cocaine, totaling 345.07 kilograms, according to a report by 3news.com.

Laboratory analysis conducted by the Ghana Standards Authority and NACOC confirmed that the entire 3,319.68 kg shipment was high-quality cocaine, with a purity range of 50% to 70%.

It is believed the cocaine, with an estimated street value of about $350 million, was smuggled into Ghana using fishing vessels.

Two suspects, Isaac Quaicoe and Kenneth Cobbinah, have been arrested and are expected to appear in court on April 2, 2025.
