Ghana’s former Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, is urging the Black Stars to step up their game despite their recent victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The team secured a 5-0 win over Chad and a 3-0 victory against Madagascar, but Vanderpuye remains unconvinced about the team’s overall development.

“I think the two matches we have played so far don’t give me any indication that there has been an improvement in the team, even though we’ve won those matches by wide score lines,” Vanderpuye said.

He emphasized his desire to see a Ghana national team that can strike fear into the hearts of opposing teams, regardless of their reputation. “I want to see a Ghana national team that will strike fear or put every other team on alert that they are playing Ghana, whether you are Argentina or Brazil.”

The victories have boosted Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the team leading Group I with 15 points.

Vanderpuye also expressed concerns over the current Ghana Football Association administration, stating that its structure makes it nearly impossible for any head coach to succeed with the Black Stars.
