The Black Stars are set to compete in the 2025 Unity Cup in London this May. The mini-tournament aims to celebrate African and Caribbean football, featuring the Black Stars in matches against rivals Nigeria and Jamaica.

With a potential game against Jamaica, let’s take a trip down memory lane to revisit the Black Stars’ thrilling 2006 showdown against the Reggae Boyz.

In 2006, the Black Stars faced Jamaica in a friendly match as part of their preparations for their maiden FIFA World Cup appearance.

The game, held at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester on May 29, 2006, gave Ghana the chance to fine-tune their squad ahead of their historic debut on football’s biggest stage.

Under coach Ratomir Dujković, the team boasted some of Ghana’s finest talents, including captain Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, and Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars delivered a commanding performance, securing a 4-1 victory with goals from Sulley Muntari, Stephen Appiah, Matthew Amoah, and an own goal. This win bolstered the team’s confidence as they geared up for the World Cup.

Notably, the Black Stars went on to make history at the tournament by advancing to the Round of 16.
