Two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner and one of Ghana’s legendary footballers, Rev Osei Kofi, led the Black Stars to two AFCON titles during his playing days.

After an illustrious professional career, during which he won multiple accolades and participated in tournaments such as the Olympics, Osei Kofi has been widely celebrated for his achievements.

However, Osei Kofi still harbors disappointment over being overlooked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) when selecting individuals to attend the Black Stars‘ matches at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

It took the intervention of a Nigerian company for him to finally have the opportunity to watch the team he proudly represented.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Osei Kofi shared how he was initially shunned by the GFA but later received an invitation to attend the World Cup after assisting an unknown lady with the history of Ghana-Nigeria football matches.

“Ghana sent a lot of people, but I wasn’t part of it. I was sent to that World Cup in South Africa by a sports management company from Nigeria. A lady came to Ghana, went to the FA, and said she wanted a short history of Ghana and Nigeria football matches. Nyantakyi told her to come to me, and I provided everything the lady asked for,” he explained.

Unbeknownst to Osei Kofi, the woman had already arranged for his trip to the World Cup. He further revealed how the lady had initially kept her plans a secret.

“She said I’d hear from her after three weeks. One morning, she called to congratulate me for being nominated as one of the legends of African football and told me I was going to South Africa to watch the World Cup free of charge,” he added.

Osei Kofi had the privilege of witnessing the Black Stars make history by reaching the World Cup quarter-finals.

However, his joy turned to heartbreak as Ghana suffered a devastating loss to Uruguay, falling just one kick short of becoming the first African team to reach the tournament’s semi-finals.
